Meanwhile troops. of the 8th Div. 18th Regiment enter East Germany at Helmstedt, and arrive in West Berlin to reinforce the garrison. Part 2, Royal Dutch Airlines DC-4s take off from New York's International Airport, carrying Sevin Insecticide to Egypt, to combat an army worm plague of that country's cotton crop; they land at Cairo airport, and are unloaded. Part 3, Swimming: Steve Clark, Bob Bennett, Carl Robie, and Chet Jastremski, are among winners of the AAU Outdoor Swimming Championships at Los Angeles, California Part 4, Tennis: Justina Bricks of the U.S. defeats Angela Mortimer of Britain to win the Wrightman Cup for the U.S.

Lucius DuBignon Clay (1897-1978) was born in Marietta, Georgia, the son of U.S. Senator Alexander Stephen and Sarah (Francis) Clay. After graduating from West Point in 1918, he commissioned in the Army Corps of Engineers. From 1937 to 1938, he was chief engineer under General Douglas MacArthur in the Philippines.
